# Workspace and gestures

Choose a grid, assign a scope to each cell, then save the arrangement under a name. You can place multiple copies of the same scope with independent settings—for example, a luma Waveform beside an RGB Parade.

## Build and save a layout

1. Tap the grid button to open **Grids & Saved Layouts**.
2. Choose **Single**, **Split**, **Three**, **2 × 2**, **3 × 2**, **3 × 3**, **Large + 2**, **Large + 3**, **Large + 4**, **Large & Small + 3**, **Large & Small + 4**, or **2 Above + 1 Below**.
3. Tap each scope title to choose what appears in that cell.
4. Drag an available divider to adjust panel sizes.
5. Set each scope's options using its ellipsis button.
6. Return to the layout panel and choose **Save New Layout**.

Saved layouts retain the grid, scope choices, cell settings and portrait/landscape divider positions. Tap a saved layout to load it. Its management menu offers **Rename**, **Replace with Current Layout** and **Delete**.

The workspace adapts when you rotate or resize the iPad window. Grid names describe the arrangement; they do not restrict which scopes you can assign.

## Expand and lock

Tap a cell's diagonal arrows to open that scope in an immersive full-screen view. Solo view hides the main toolbar, panel borders, titles and scope controls. Tap the floating **Exit Full Screen** button, press **Escape**, or press **Option–S** to return to the grid.

When you zoom into Source Signal or False Color, the header shows the zoom level and a **Zoom Preview** appears in the bottom right corner. The thumbnail shows the whole picture, and a yellow rectangle marks the area you are viewing. It disappears when you return to 100%. Turn it off with **Zoom Preview** in Source Signal's **More Scope Settings → Signal & Display**, or in False Color's **Display** settings.

The Zoom Preview shows which part of the frame you are looking at.</p></figcaption></figure>

Tap the padlock, or press **Tab** on a hardware keyboard, to hide panel borders, titles and editing buttons for a clean monitoring view. Scope gestures remain active while the layout controls are hidden and while a scope is shown in Solo. Unlock before changing the grid or scope settings.

## Snapshots, freeze and references

Source Signal has three capture controls beside its full-screen button:

* **Freeze Source** holds the current picture and video-scope measurements while the input continues to receive frames. Input settings shown in the frozen picture stay as they were when you froze it; changes take effect after you unfreeze. Use the orange play button in any cell showing the frozen input to resume, including in a locked layout or Solo.
* **Use Current Frame as Reference** saves the displayed frame to the Reference Gallery and enables it for comparison.
* **Save Snapshot to Photos** saves the displayed frame as a color-managed SDR PNG, including HDR-to-SDR conversion. Allow OmniScope to add photos when iPadOS asks.

### Compare with a reference

Open the Source Signal title menu to choose **Reference Gallery…**, load a reference from Photos or Files, toggle **Compare Side by Side**, or remove the selected reference. The live source stays connected while the source and reference appear side by side; video scopes analyze the combined picture, while audio stays with the live input.

<figure><img src="https://565437294-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MFqn5MuayPgQPMZ9pwf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-cfebc7f8d3f1006a18c742fb3391a78883e1e59a%2Fomniscope-ipad-reference-compare.png?alt=media" alt="Live camera picture and a reference frame side by side, with False Color, Hectorscope and Waveform each titled + Reference and showing both pictures"><figcaption><p>Live and reference side by side. Every video scope shows both halves, so you can match exposure and color to the reference shot.</p></figcaption></figure>

While a comparison is active, each video scope's title gains **+ Reference**, for example **Waveform + Reference**. Goniometer and Loudness Meter keep measuring the live input only. Source Signal labels the two halves **Live** and **Reference**, and its header shows **SDR** in place of the Raw / SDR / HDR preview picker, because the comparison is displayed in SDR. The [White-Balance Probe](/nobe-omniscope-for-ipad/scopes.md#check-white-balance) is unavailable until you turn the comparison off.

### Manage the Reference Gallery

**Reference Gallery…** lists every saved reference. Each card shows a thumbnail, the name of the source it came from (or the file name for Files imports), and when it was captured. The orange checkmark marks the reference selected for the current input. Tap a card to select it and return to the workspace, or tap the trash button to delete it.

<figure><img src="https://565437294-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MFqn5MuayPgQPMZ9pwf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-080b9f263784b272d80dee65bf9e4dab404c106d%2Fomniscope-ipad-reference-gallery.png?alt=media" alt="Reference Gallery sheet with three saved frames, one marked with an orange checkmark"><figcaption><p>The Reference Gallery. The checkmark shows the active reference for this input.</p></figcaption></figure>

References in the gallery persist after relaunch. The selected reference and comparison setting are remembered for each input. Deleting a gallery copy does not delete its original from Photos or Files.

## Touch controls

| Scope | Gesture |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Source Signal, False Color, Skin Tone and Neutral | Pinch to zoom; drag with two fingers to pan; double-tap to reset zoom and pan |
| Waveform | Pinch to zoom vertically; drag with two fingers to pan vertically; double-tap to reset |
| Vectorscope, Histogram and CIE Plot | Pinch to zoom; double-tap to reset |
| Hectorscope | Drag with one finger to rotate and tilt; pinch to zoom; drag with two fingers to pan; double-tap to reset zoom and pan |
| Source Signal color pin | Drag the pin or its readout with one finger to move its sampling position |

Hectorscope's **Reset Rotation** is separate from **Reset Zoom & Pan**. Some newer gesture controls may require a beta update.

In **Preferences → Double-Tap Scope**, choose whether double-tapping a scope resets zoom and pan or toggles Solo. Reset Zoom & Pan is the default and remains available in the scope settings. In Solo, double-tap always returns to the grid.

## Selection masks

Drag over Source Signal or False Color to select an area for analysis. In Histogram, drag to select a value range. By default, the selection clears when you lift your finger.

To keep selections without a keyboard, open **More Input Settings**, find **Selection Mask**, and enable **Keep Selection Mask After Drag**. Drag again to replace the selection.

With a hardware keyboard, hold **Shift as you lift your finger** to reverse that setting for the current selection:

| Keep Selection Mask After Drag | Finger lift | Shift + finger lift |
| ------------------------------ | --------------- | ------------------- |
| Off | Clear selection | Keep selection |
| On | Keep selection | Clear selection |

You can press Shift during the drag; it does not need to be held from the start. Releasing Shift after lifting your finger leaves the completed selection unchanged.

## Hardware keyboard shortcuts

{% hint style="info" %}
Keyboard support is part of the current development build. It may not be available in your installed TestFlight build yet. Builds with this support include a **Hardware Keyboard** reference in **Preferences**.
{% endhint %}

These shortcuts follow the desktop defaults where the corresponding action is available on iPad. Use them in the unlocked workspace with settings sheets and popups closed.

| Shortcut | Action |
| ----------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Tab** | Lock or unlock the layout |
| **Option–S** | Show the last touched scope alone; press again to return to the grid |
| **Escape** | Exit solo view |
| **Option–R** | Reset the input crop and Source Signal/False Color viewer zoom and pan |
| **Option–D** | Toggle the current source's imported input LUT on or off |
| **Control–comma** | Open Preferences |
| **Shift–Left Arrow / Right Arrow** | Seek a video backward / forward by 3 seconds |
| **Option–Shift–Left Arrow / Right Arrow** | Seek a video backward / forward by 10 seconds |

Touch inside the scope's plot or image before using **Option–S**. Video seeks stop at the beginning or end of the file and do not apply to live inputs. **Option–D** requires an [imported input LUT](/nobe-omniscope-for-ipad/color-and-hdr.md#import-an-input-lut). Preferences uses the **Control** key, matching the current desktop default.

Hold **Option** while interacting with a scope to use its picker or inspection readout, where supported and enabled in that scope's settings. For example, Source Signal uses its color picker and Histogram shows values at the selected position.

The iPad shortcuts are fixed defaults; desktop shortcut customizations are not imported. Window controls, snapshots, photo-folder navigation, global capture pause, and numbered saved-layout shortcuts are not mapped on iPad.

## Zoom, pan and input crop

Zooming a Source Signal, False Color, Skin Tone or Neutral view changes that viewer only. Enable **Link Image Views** in the scope menu to share zoom and pan with image scopes using the same input. To analyze the framed region with every scope:

1. Pinch and pan to frame the area you want.
2. Open that scope's ellipsis menu.
3. Select **Crop Input to View**.

The crop is remembered for the source and affects every scope. **Reset Zoom & Pan**, including double-tap, does not remove it. Choose **Reset Input Crop** to restore the full input.

Input **Aspect Ratio** also crops the signal rather than stretching it. Review both aspect and input crop if part of the picture is missing.
