Floating Licenses
Concurrent-seat licensing for studios, render farms, and cloud workstations
Floating licenses are designed for teams that run Nobe Display on many machines — including virtual or cloud workstations — but only need a limited number of copies running at the same time.
Instead of binding the license to specific machines, a floating license gives you a pool of seats. Any machine can use Nobe Display; the license simply limits how many machines run it concurrently.
Floating licenses are available for enterprise customers and are priced per seat. Contact us to discuss your team size and get a quote.
How it works
You receive a single floating license key for your whole team.
When Nobe Display starts on any machine, it takes one seat from your pool.
When the app quits, the seat is released immediately and becomes available to the next machine.
If a machine disappears without quitting cleanly — a crashed workstation, or a terminated cloud instance — its seat is released automatically within 30 minutes. No manual reset is ever needed.
This makes floating licenses a natural fit for ephemeral cloud workstations (AWS, Azure, GCP): instances can come and go freely, and seats are never permanently consumed by machines that no longer exist.
Activation
Activation works the same way on every machine: enter your email and floating license key in the Register window. There is nothing machine-specific to manage — the same key works everywhere.
A floating license includes the full Nobe Display feature set, including NDI® output.
All seats in use
If every seat is taken when a machine starts Nobe Display, the app shows which machines currently hold seats, so your team can see who to ask. As soon as any machine quits Nobe Display, the seat frees up and the waiting machine can register again.
Need more seats? The seat count of an existing license can be increased at any time — contact us.
Internet connection requirement
Floating seats are managed by our license server, so machines running Nobe Display with a floating license need an internet connection. A brief network interruption is fine — the app keeps working for up to 30 minutes without contact with the license server — but fully offline or air-gapped machines should use a standard node-locked license instead.
